What Are Treatment Options for Gynecomastia?

We investigate the underlying cause of gynecomastia before we start the treatment in our patients. If you suspect such a condition, you can consult our endocrinologists.

Considering treatment of the disease, we first determine the type of gynecomastia. For instance, we use Nydick classification for adolescent patients and we measure their response to the treatment.

Here, the important factor is the size of glandular tissue. If the disc measures smaller than 4 cm in diameter, we inform the patient and allow the enlargement of breast disappear spontaneously.

If diameter of the disc is between 4 and 6 cm, we start medical treatment. If the disc measures larger than 6 cm, the only option we have is a surgical procedure

Gynecomastia Surgery
We perform gynecomastia surgery in 3 different ways. The method is determined according to condition of our patient and the disease; then, we proceed to the treatment stage.

Methods we use for gynecomastia surgery are as follows:

  • Scar-free Gynecomastia Surgery: This method is called Liposuction in medical literature. We remove the entire fat tissue and next, we break down the breast tissue in this procedure. We create a 5-mm hole in mammary gland and remove the breast tissue through this hole using PULL-THROUGH technique. This procedure alone is sufficient for some of our patients.
  • Gynecomastia Surgery with Incision: A lunar incision is made on the brown part of the nipple and excess tissue is removed through the incision in this method.
  • Liposuction and Incision: In this procedure, we evaluate our patients and determine grade of their disease. We proceed to the treatment phase according to type of gynecomastia (glandular, mixed and lipomatous).

Can Gynecomastia Be Treated Without Surgery?
This question is asked by many of our patients, although the answer is unfortunately negative. The only treatment option for gynecomastia is surgery. Non-surgical management of the condition is not possible. Searching for non-surgical options is nothing but waste of time.

Does Gynecomastia Progress?
We know that our patients have a lot of questions in mind about gynecomastia. One of them is whether the disease will progress after the surgery.

If you have enlarged breasts that annoy you, the condition can be corrected with a surgical procedure. Enlargement of breast stops and it does not progress after the surgery. Undoubtedly, patient should pay attention to weight gain and loss especially after the surgery. If you gain too much weight after the treatment, some enlargement may be experienced.

What Happens If Gynecomastia Is Not Treated?

Unfortunately, some of our patients do not consider gynecomastia as a problem. Patients who think of gynecomastia as a transient problem maintain their lives without being uncomfortable with their looks.

If you ignore this condition, enlargement of breast will continue at a great pace. As is the case for all diseases, early treatment is crucial for gynecomastia.

After you are evaluated in our hospital, you can correct this condition completely with the treatment method advised by our specialists. Health problems are not a condition that one should be ashamed of. On the contrary, the person should be aware of his appearance and take action towards treatment of the condition.
